Holiday Cottage on The Malvern Hills

About

Pixie Steps Cottage Malvern - Garden in Spring

Pixie Steps Cottage is a two bedroom holiday cottage perched high on the east side of The Malvern Hills. The cottage is named after the Pixie Path, an ancient path of over 200 steps leading up to The Wyche Cutting on the ridge of The Malvern Hills.

The cottage was built in the 19th Century, probably as a home for one of the many quarry or railway workers in the area. Although the terrain was difficult to build on, the settlement had the benefit of a Malvern water spring nearby.

Inside, the sitting room has a large comfortable sofa, a Morso wood burning stove and a radio. The kitchen is off the sitting room – it is well equipped with an induction hob, oven, dishwasher and a fridge with a small ice box. There is a dining area by the window with views across the Severn Valley.

From the kitchen a steep wooden stair leads to the two bedrooms. The smaller bedroom has two bunkbeds with pocket sprung mattresses and, arguably, the best view in the cottage. The larger bedroom has a King Sized bed with a luxury Hypnos mattress. The bathroom is downstairs off the sitting room and has a small bath with a shower attachment.

Outside is a large hillside terraced garden with three levels. The top level, directly outside the cottage, has a small outside dining area. The garden is surrounded by woodland and adjacent to an SSSI. It is managed in a way that supports the wildlife of the hills. You are very likely to see the local buzzard sweeping low, bats flying at dusk, and hear tawny owls at night.
